Though they were offered roles in hit series like Get Smart and The Carol Burnett Show, mismanagement led to missed opportunities, and the partnership ended in 1968.

Fred made his film debut in the 1967 exploitation film Teenage Mother and often recounted a particularly awkward audience reaction during its screening.

He also performed at The Second City in Chicago alongside comedy greats like Robert Klein and David Steinberg. Fred later became a founding member of the Ace Trucking Company, an improv group that regularly appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson and This Is Tom Jones.
