Welcome to Rondo Retreat

The Only Place in Kenya Where Even the Birds Are on a Spiritual Retreat.

Hidden deep in Kakamega Forest—Kenya’s one and only rainforest (yes, we’re exclusive like that)—Rondo Retreat Centre is where serenity, birdsong, and just the right amount of holy hush come together to give your soul a warm hug.

Holy Roots & Historical Gossip:

Once upon a chainsaw (okay, 1948), a sawmiller built a house here for his wife beside the biggest tree in the forest—an Elgon Olive so massive, you could throw a tea party under it. Fast-forward to 1961: the sawmiller said “peace out” to Kenya, and the Trinity Fellowship swooped in to turn the spot into a Christian sanctuary for nature lovers (and possibly birds who need therapy).

Led by the Reverend and Mrs. Dawkins (a power duo before it was cool), Rondo has gone from orphanage to youth camp to film set (yep, The Kitchen Toto was shot here—Google it), and now to a place where you can disconnect from your Wi-Fi and reconnect with your soul.

So What’s the Vibe?

Imagine cottages so charming they look like they were designed by Pinterest and blessed by angels. Furniture with stories, flower gardens that explode in color, and verandahs that offer views so peaceful, you’ll consider never going home again. Basically, it’s like Narnia, if Narnia had room service and hot showers.

What to See & Do:

Bird Watching – Over 300 species, including some with better hair than you.

Hike to Yala River – The river’s chill. So should you be.

Climb Lirhanda Hill – Get those steps in, spot the bat cave (no, Batman isn’t home), and flex with forest views.

Visit the Curio Shop – Where you can buy souvenirs, books, and a sense of spiritual superiority.

Still a Sanctuary:

This isn’t just a retreat—it’s a place where your soul can hit the reset button. Rondo is run by Rev. Godfrey & Elisabeth Dawkins (yes, it’s still a family affair), and they invite you to come reflect on… life, faith, nature, and whether birds have secret church services when no one’s watching.
