Description

In 1996, Sabatia Eye Hospital emerged as a beacon of hope in Vihiga County. This remarkable initiative was a result of a collaborative effort by the local community, guided by the leadership of former Vice President Hon. Musalia Mudavadi, along with invaluable support from the Christoffel Blinden Mission/Christian Blind Mission, the Lions Club of Germany, District 111-MS, the Lions Club of Kisumu, the Government of Kenya, and the Friends Church at Vokoli. This hospital was born out of necessity, as western Kenya had long yearned for a center to provide essential eye care services, and Sabatia Eye Hospital stepped up to fill this significant gap.

Sabatia Eye Hospital stands as a prominent non-profit, independent referral eye hospital nestled in the scenic western region of Kenya. It proudly holds the distinction of being one of the select few tertiary eye hospitals that grace the rural landscapes of Kenya. The impact of its services ripples across a vast expanse, touching the lives of approximately 15 million individuals. These regions span the North Rift, western Kenya, and the Lake Basin, encompassing a grand total of 17 counties.

The hospital's reach extends even further as it engages in strategic outreach campaigns, forging valuable partnerships and fostering diverse collaborative arrangements. At its core, the hospital is committed to the pursuit of excellence in ophthalmological training. To this end, it offers specialized courses and competency-based training, nurturing the growth of future eye care experts.

Structurally, Sabatia Eye Hospital operates with a well-organized approach, comprising three pivotal departments, each playing a crucial role in fulfilling its mission. These departments are Clinical, Finance & Administration, and Training, working in harmony to deliver exceptional eye care services.
