Biography

Patricia DiMango is a retired New York Supreme Court Justice from Kings County and a well-known television personality. She currently serves as one of three judges—alongside Tanya Acker and Adam Levy—on Tribunal Justice, a series created by Judge Judy Sheindlin that premiered on Freevee in June 2023.

Previously, DiMango gained national recognition as one of the judges on the courtroom reality series Hot Bench, also created by Judge Judy. She served on the show alongside Judges Tanya Acker, Larry Bakman, Michael Corriero, and courtroom bailiff Sonia Montejano.

Career

Before embarking on her judicial career, DiMango worked as a public school teacher and a college professor in New York City.
In 1995, she was appointed as a Judge of the Criminal Court of the City of New York by Mayor Rudolph Giuliani. She became an Acting Justice of the New York State Supreme Court (2nd Judicial District) in 1998 and was later elected as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Kings County in 2002.

During her judicial career, DiMango presided over numerous high-profile cases involving homicides, child-related crimes, and hate crimes.
Notably, in 2013, she became involved in the case of Kalief Browder, a young man who spent over three years in Rikers Island without trial. On his 31st court appearance, Judge DiMango ordered his release.

In addition to her courtroom work, DiMango made a guest appearance as a judge in Season 13, Episode 1 of Blue Bloods.

Education

A Brooklyn native, DiMango earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Brooklyn College (City University of New York), followed by a Master of Arts from Columbia University’s Teachers College. She later obtained her Juris Doctor from St. John’s University School of Law.

Television Career

DiMango transitioned to television in 2014 as one of the original judges on Hot Bench, a courtroom show created by Judge Judy Sheindlin. She served on the show until 2022, contributing to its unique format of a three-judge panel deliberating cases . In 2023, she joined Tribunal Justice, another court show created by Sheindlin, alongside judges Tanya Acker and Adam Levy.

Judicial Career

In 1995, DiMango was appointed as a Judge of the Criminal Court of the City of New York by Mayor Rudolph Giuliani. DiMango was a core member of Hot Bench, which debuted in September 2014. The show was a hit in daytime television, ranking as the third-highest first-run program, drawing around 3.2 million daily viewers during the 2017–2018 season. Hot Bench was renewed for multiple seasons, solidifying DiMango’s reputation as a trusted and charismatic legal figure on television.

She is the daughter of Mafalda and Anthony DiMango. Her mother, Mafalda, was a prominent education leader who served on Community School Board 20 and the District 20 Community Educational Council for over five decades. Mafalda was an advocate for child welfare and educational reforms before passing away on August 2, 2018, at the age of 91. Patricia has one sister, Joanne DiMango-Orr, who is a retired educator.
